Letter update 11/06/06
It's funny how Mike has been addressing his letters lately...
"Wasup Y'uns,"
How do you even pronounce that? In typical Halloween fashion, they had to be in early (by 9:00 PM) so no trick or treating dressed up as LDS Missionaries. Too bad! He joked about his second bike wreck and said he is going to have to start riding a tricycle. I get the feeling that he'd find a way to wreck on that too.
On Sunday, no one was able to give them a ride to church. It's a little different from where he grew up in Utah, where you can walk to 3 different church buildings in under 10 minutes. But he lives 10 miles away from the closest church. The funny part about this particular sunday, where they would have to ride their bikes to church, is no one told them it was Daylight Savings and apparently they don't have a calendar in their apartment or the Missionary planners don't have that kind of vital information in them. So they woke up at 5:30 AM thinking it was 6:30. They got to church an hour early, and "looked like crap" because of riding their bikes for 10 miles in their suits. And to top it all off, it was Elder Leavitt's Birthday. Mike puts it "that's a crappy Howdy-Do."
Some of the weird food he has eaten so far on his mission is Fried Okra, Gritts, Deep fried Oreos, some nasty ribs (I hope these members that are feeding him aren't reading this), cow tongue, Hmong food, corn wrapped in bacon and shrimp that wasn't cooked, and "some other crap" that he couldn't remember. I think this letter was sponsored by the word "crap".
He sent a few items home with this letter. Some Acorns from a River Oak down by the Catawba river, he wants us to plant to see if we can grow some little oak trees by the time he comes home. He said he's really into some of the huge trees down there. He also sent home a little foam rubber bat that said Happy Halloween from South Carolina. His MTC missionary tag with his "dork dot" still on it, and his Picture Card from his camera. So there will be plenty of picture and possibly video updates on here soon. I haven't seen any of the pictures on it yet, but you will see most of them shortly, stay tuned.
