William Bryan Alexander's Profile

William Bryan Alexander
Mission: Tennessee Nashville Mission
Dates: Sept. 11th, 1975 to August 26th, 1977
Areas: Johnson City, TN - Dexter, MO - Tullahoma, TN - Mayfield, KY - Bowling Green, KY - Antioch, TN

One of my favorite mission experiences was when I was transferred from Johnson City TN to Dexter on the other side of the mission. I was only out 6 weeks at the time. I had to take the bus. They dropped me off at 4:30 AM. The bus station was closed, so I had to sit outside. It was a black town. I had to call my District Leader to come pick me up. So they drove an hour and a half to come pick me up. I opened up a branch in Dexter. We rented a little house, and as missionaries, we had to give the talks, pass the sacrament, everything. We got about 21 people out to the branch and felt great about our work there. I learned on my mission, about the truthfulness of the gospel, and being in the buckle of the bible belt, I learned to love the bible and gained a great knowledge of that in the face of pastors and preachers that opposed us on a regular basis. I also really loved serving in the state where my grandfather was born and joined the church.

The morning I went in to the mission home, with my mom and dad. (nice tie)

My mission president, Emerson T. Cannon and his wife on my first night in the mission home.

Me and Duncan Barber from Downey CA, pointing to the Bible in our Quad. We were quite the Bible Bashing Brothers of the South.

Bill Morefield and my companion Keith Valentine from Clearwater FL, we baptized his son Tim and his daughter Suzy in Mayfield KY.

Sweet Mission Car! "The Vega" and my companion Mike Talbot from Layton UT, visiting the Elm Hill Elders in Nashville. You can see in this picture how I picked up the Horse Laugh Nickname as the Zone Leader of Nashville South Zone.
