MTC
Tuesday Night, August 1st, we went to the Stake Center where Pres. Baer set Mike apart as a missionary. So from here on till he's released, he's officially Elder Alexander. Wednesday, August 2nd at 10:00 AM we packed up all of Elder Alexander's bags and headed down to Provo to the MTC. He got his last meal at Wendy's before going in. After getting his "dork dot" put on his shiny new tag, we went into the Orientation. We heard from the MTC mission President, his wife, and his counselor who all gave great talks. We sang Called to Serve and watched the movie Called to Serve. We had a closing prayer, briefed on the good bye process and it was time. We kept the good byes short and sweet per Mike's request and it made it a little less painful. We were given the "band-aid" analogy about ripping it off fast is less painful than taking it nice and slow. That was it. He's off. So we'll wait to hear about his first few days, his new companion and how the food is. I'll put up his companion bio as soon as we get that back and start posting some of his letters so everyone can keep up on how things are in the MTC.
Again, feel free to drop any comments on this blog and we'll print them off and send them to his MTC address. Or you can send letters directly to his MTC address...
He will be flying out for Charlotte on August 23rd, so you have until then. I'll post his Charlotte address when he gets out there too.

Well we dropped off our Mikey today at the MTC. As expected, it was hard but was a beautiful experience. Yes, there were tears but there were smiles also because we know that this is what he is supposed to be doing and where he is supposed to be going. We are very proud of our Mikey. We will miss him more than words can say. (On the way home, I looked into the back seat of the car and was about to ask him a question - but he was not there.) We are happy for him and his choice to serve the Lord. We love him and support him.
